Signs of Lupus - All You Need to Know and Exciting News

!±8± Signs of Lupus - All You Need to Know and Exciting News

Dr House in the popular TV show often says "it's never lupus". That's TV. In reality it is lupus more often than most people think. What Dr House says is not true for 1.5 million people in USA alone

Signs of lupus are a complex subject because of the ability of lupus to mime other disease and the fact that the signs can come and go and vary in intensity over time. That is why it's not rare that people often go for years without knowing that they have lupus. By the end of this article, the reader will know precisely what to look for to know for sure if it's lupus.

Signs of lupus - skin involvement

The most common signs of lupus on the skin is the characteristic red skin rash (often called the malar rash or butterfly rash) that usually appears across the nose and cheeks. Besides the face, rashes may also appear on the face and the ears, shoulders, chest, hands and upper arms. This rashes often first appear after intense sun exposure or worsen after it.

Signs of lupus - kidney involvement

Probably the most commonly involved organ in lupus inflammation is the kidney. As lupus progresses, it gets inflamed (this is called nephritis) and this affects its ability to get rid of waste in the human system. This then causes a number of disturbances in the way the human body works, because of the crucial importance of the body cleansing that the kidneys are in charged of.

And this would all not be that scary if it was easy to recognize that lupus is causing the inflammation in the kidneys, but it is anything but easy. Most of the time the patient has no symptoms and only in rare cases, people get swollen joints. The only reliable way of knowing that your kidneys are in danger is an urine test. One can only hope that some symptoms will appear before lupus damages the kidneys beyond repair.

Signs of lupus - central nervous system

If you CNS is affected by lupus, you will experience headaches, dizziness, memory disturbances, vision problems, seizures or even stroke.

Signs of lupus - blood and blood vessels

Very often lupus patients develop anemia as the disease progresses, leucopenia (low number of white blood cells) or thrombocytophenia (low number of blood platelets. Also, an increased risk of blood clot sis present.

If the blood vessels get inflamed the doctors call this vasculitis and this can change the patterns of blood circulation. Vasculitis can range from mild, when no treatment might be necessary, to severe, where urgent medical attention is required.

Signs of lupus in the heart

When lupus affects the heart muscle, several scenarios might occur. The patient might develop myocarditis and endocarditis (inflammation in the heart itself) or pericarditis (inflammation of the membrane that surround the heart). This can cause sever chest pain and discomfort.

Other signs of lupus

Among other manifestations of lupus, the most common ones are: fatigue, fever, swollen glands, ulcers in the mouth, hair loss, chest pain and sun sensitivity.

Lupus causes and treatment is a subject of controversy. This is mainly due to the fact that there has been little or no advance in the filed for such a long time. Some alternative treatment methods, such as the well known Norton protocol, are reported to be successful in treating this mysterious disease. Read more about the Norton Protocol by clicking here and visiting the official home page of the protocol.

How to Live a Long and Healthy Life - Secrets of the Okinawans

!±8± How to Live a Long and Healthy Life - Secrets of the Okinawans

One of the longest living people in the world is the Japanese. Numbers vary each year and many factors can make statistics quite volatile, but the United Nations had Japan at number one in life expectancy at birth at the ripe old age of 82.6 for its overall population in the years 2005-2010. The CIA World Factbook ranked Japan at number three (after Macau and Andorra) at a slightly lower number of 82.12 in 2009. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the islands of Okinawa in Japan boast 50 centenarians per 100,000 people - possibly the highest number in the world. Not only do the Okinawans enjoy long life, they also are among the healthiest people in the world with remarkably low rates of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Studies on longevity of the Okinawans have revealed a few factors that contribute to such a long and healthy life.

1. A positive outlook towards life - Research has shown that positive thinking adds years to your life. When you actually look forward to aging and living life to the fullest, you tend to have less stress and worries. Okinawans are cheerful, energetic people who maintain an active social life way beyond 70 or 80 years of age.

2. Exercise - It is not a rare sight in Japan to see an elderly out manually working in their farms, fields or gardens. Japanese elderly, Okinawans included, tend to keep themselves busy and stay in good shape with various physical activities such as gateball (a croquet-like game enjoyed by the elderly in Japan), traditional Japanese dances, and martial arts.

3. Genetics - This is the one factor that there is not much one can do anything about. However, the fact remains that if you come from a family with long lives, chances are you yourself will have a long life.

4. Diet - Perhaps the most important reason for longevity in Okinawa is their diet. Okinawans eat a lot of fish, fresh vegetables, soy and legumes and seaweed. Fish is rich in omega-3 and helps reduce cholesterol, which can cause cardiovascular diseases. Vegetables, especially leafy greens, are excellent sources of vitamins and folate that have cancer-fighting properties. Soy products are low-caloric food that is rich in calcium, a food source that contributes to low rates of osteoporosis and natural menopause with far fewer complications such as hot flashes among women.

Most of the things listed above can easily be emulated by anyone who wants to live a long, healthy life. Some lifestyle changes will have to be made, but it is absolutely doable. A long, healthy life awaits.
